Hi! I’m Mandy, owner and principal photographer of Sweetie & Bean Photography!
For me, photography is all about understanding your story. I want to capture what’s happening in your life – the big moments like anniversaries, births, graduations, as well as the small moments, like the look in your child’s eye as they glance at your or the brush of a hand over your cheek. Every moment matters, because putting them together helps us understand where we came from and where we’re going.
History Of Sweetie & Bean Photography
The moments in my life leading to professional photography were quite subtle, and only looking back on those moments can I see it now. I’ve always been a very creative person, but channelled that into finding solutions to human problems in social work. As a lifelong student, I threw myself into my master’s degree and social work licensure, but I also took camera and film classes at the same time.
Family has always been extremely important to me, and I worked hard for years in child protection. It was during this time in which photography came to the forefront, as a way to process emotions and understand what I felt.
I finally decided to leave social work and begin my own photography business, channeling my creativity, love for study and family as well as passion for photography. I photograph families, couples, children, maternity and newborn sessions along with graduating seniors.
I typically work outdoors in natural light, but am very open to any type of photography. For portrait photography, you may choose to do it outside or in your own home.
While based in St. Cloud, I will travel to the Twin Cities or other nearby areas. Common outdoor locations near St. Cloud include the quarries, St. John’s University and Arboretum, downtown St. Cloud, Warner Lake Park, Bend in the River Park and Two Rivers Campground, among others.
As the mom of three beautiful children – a daughter and two sons – I’m always working on my craft with them! The name of the business originates from nicknames my husband I had have for our two oldest. Our daughter, Lucy, was always the Sweetie and our son, Jack, has always been Bean since he was a newborn. I’ve been married for more than 10 years to my high school sweetheart.
Thank you for visiting my site and I hope I get the opportunity to work with you and/or your family on portrait photography or any life event!
